Next steps will be found under the Fastpitch or Inhouse section! We would like all interested coaches to be registered by January 31, 2018, but you can continue to register through February!
If you are interested in being a head coach for Traveling Fastpitch; shortly after registration you will receive an email from SBAA. Please follow all the steps carefully; You may need to do a background check or concussion training. SBAA will be tracking the last time these tasks were completed and if you will need to re-certify.
If you need a background check there will be a link in the email to do this.
If you need concussion training it will point you back to this page to complete the concussion training.
All interested head coaches must also take the Concussion Training detailed below (good for 3 years so not necessary to take it this year if you took it last year). note: Assistant coaches DO NOT do the background check and concussion training unless instructed to do so.
Once you are registered, passed the Concussion Training and gone through the background check your name will be listed on the "Registered Coaches" page. That does not mean you will be a coach for sure, just that you have registered at this point and are interested

If you are interested in watching coaching DVD's you can check them out through Corryn. We have the following ones available:
The SBAA field scheduler is Corryn Anderson. She will be working hard in March and April to get the game and practice schedules ready for the entire association, that includes all in-house and traveling. Be assured she will get them to us as soon as she has each phase complete so there is no need to ask for them. We will email them out as soon as they are done! They may come out in phases with a couple weeks done at a time. This should not be a big deal for the in-house parents. Everyone knows what days of the week their age group plays so knowing which are game and practice nights is not a big deal. We are planning for the 2017 season to start the week of April 16th or 23rd with practices/scrimages and then games will be the week of May 7 (6U may earlier).
The 13U and older age group will be on a different schedule set up because they play in different leagues.
Any coaches wanting to set up more practices than you are regularly scheduled for should contact Corryn to see what fields are open for you. Please wait to ask for extra practice time until she has the first schedules out.
Coaches for in-house baseball and 8U softball will be able to pick up their equipment bag and uniforms on Monday, April TBD from 5pm-8pm. We will not open the doors for you to come in any earlier than 5pm nor will we be able to give anything out earlier than April TBD. We have coaches try to come earlier every year to try to get a certain color uniform set and we will not be letting anyone in this year before our planned time of 5pm. We will need the time right up until 5pm to get everything ready so we are organized when you get in.
Equipment/uniform handout will be at TBD. If you are not able to make it that night then please have someone from your team come.
Plan for the season to start the week of April 16th, depending on the condition of the fields. It would be a good idea if you set up a team meeting during the week of April 9th so you can share information before your first practice. You could have these meetings at one of the Park Pavilions or Ham Lake Lanes has a back meeting room you can schedule with them, or you could even just meet at the parking lot of a field.
This web site provides a great resource of baseball information regarding training, coaching, game situations, and the philosophy of the game. This web site would be enjoyed by players, parents, and coaches.
Concussion training is good for 3 years. So if you are a new coach you will need to do the Concussion Training for sure. If you are a current coach Corryn will let you know if it has been 3 years since you took it last.
Governor Dayton signed the Youth Sports Concussion Bill into law effective 9/1/11. This requires that all head coaches take an online training course on concussions. The course is free but must be completed before you are considered as a head coach for SBAA. Please click on the link below to take the 30 minute training. Go to "Take the Training" in the middle of the home page of that link. Then return to this page of our website and fill out the Concussion Proof of Certification, also below.
*If you have already take the Concussion training for another sport then all you have to do is fill out the Concussion Proof of Certification below.
Go to "Take the Training" in the middle of the home page of that link.
Make sure to click on "Complete Registration" when you are on the Summary page after you have done the registration. Loading the actual certificate is NOT required. This is an on your honor registration.
SBAA will NOT have a copy of this stored for you though unless you download the certificate on our website. You should print a copy for your records as you may be asked for it to sign up for a tournament or something like that.
